I went last weekend to the Marxism conference here in London (go) and it was very interesting listen to philosophers and politics talking about the crises today and debating solutions and ideas of how this system can change and what we can do about it. The first step is start thinking (and that is not supposed to stop) and to realize that, in fact, this political system is not working thesedays..
Of course, this conference reminds me the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, where I used to live. (check the India Forum that happened few years later, because the Brazilian website is not working any more..)
Listening to those ideas here in Europe was very interesting to compare with Porto ALegre. The forum in Porto Alegre happened quite long ago and as the same time as World Economic Forum in Davos (eca!).
Being on Marxism conference this weekend I could realize that people are stimulating to think and to act for building up anew society with new values. Rich countries are facing the crisis (only) now, so is the moment to do something.
I must emphasize my position here (and I am trying to avoid opinions, completely); I am not radical, not socialist, not fanatic, not religious. I don't like to be part of any side, I am in the middle and that allows me to think sensibly. And I believe that to cut the balls (listen to Slavoj Zizek speech) the best solution is to do my part, which is a big thing and goes beyond my routine, is to reflect of everything we do that affect others. 'so suddenly they will realize that the balls aren't there any more..'
I don't buy stupidity (in a mental sense).
[I have to confess, is hard to explain in few words what I meant by that 'stupidity'.. so I will leave my words away now and I will let you enjoy those speeches]
attitude starts small and at home

I started recording after few lectures I went to, so I will recommend those to looking for later:

an interesting relationship between Garcia Marquez's writings and the struggle of South America suffocating economical life.

lecture: Obama's rise to power - from segregation to White House by Gary Younge
lecture: Marx & Ecology by John Bellamy Foster (sorry, I started the recording after the beginning)
