the rabbit

susan boyle stuck on my blog for few days, as same as everywhere else places, she is all over now... so, great, susan! well done! and please, have a wonderful night of sleep, alright?.. I feel happy for her, blablabla, honestly!! BUT I'm not buying ANY of her Cds.. (pretending that I actually buy any Cd, nowadays..)
I know.. musicians need money (I am not talking about susan anymore).. so I should help them if I am listening to their songs.. blablabla.. well, I AM a musician by the way, and I know exactly what that means.. so I am NOT buying any Cd if I am not sure. I need to know the music and enjoy the music enough to buy it. I have to be SO sure of what I want that perhaps I get tired of having it and just give it as a present..

But the reason for me to do this is simply because I am a musician, which means I don't have money to buy Cd and I deeply believe that is the only case we should behave like this. I emphatically appreciate my friends' Cds collections!

unfortunatelly, I am not planning to advertise any cd of my bands or mine here, not YET! I could tell about our demo version now, but won't.. so save your money for the REAL album, which is coming SOON!

I could buy right now Flight of the Conchords' DVD, and also add to my basket a t-shirt.. yes, that could be a good idea!! perhaps I would change the shirt for the notebook, or the stickers!! (I don't use many t-shirts.. only for sleeping)

...
oh, shit! listen this track: a rabbit dying......... poor rabbit.....
I can understand perfectly this guy when he struggled with recording or not the rabbit last breath.. I bought a recorder few days ago and I am addicted to recording everything now.. Is quite.. 'cold', perhaps. or could be 'robbotic'.. or empty, or selfish.. or..

...
have a Cd at gogoyoko.com

incredible susan boyle

uou!! the performance of Susan Boyle!
on youtube (I can't embed)
and I am not giving any comments AT ALL......
and listen this other song!

that is the perfect example I was trying to find for my essay, which I was talking about the influence of seeing that values the music we hear.
astonishing! :)

ella fitzgerald singing 'Samba de uma nota so'

I posted last month few links about women musicians and I linked this incredible clip of Ella singing this 'little jazzy.. in a way'; Samba de Uma Nota So!!! I left as link, so I am posting this again embedded here to make it easy. Soooo good!
Also, I was wondering about New Orleans and thinking of when I'm going back there.. I want to make sure everything went back to normal after that stupid tragedy.. I need to make sure that we still can find great musicians playing on the streets, I said GREAT musicians! Need to check if we still can have a great coffee served by a handsome black guy with a huge white smile! That we still can see a clown playing with balloons and making us laugh, that we still see happiness, smiles, beautiful people, colorful streets, sun and astonishing music all over! All this was easy to get.. I remember!! And I was only 11. Please, I hope New Orleans hadn't changed much.. We need Mardi Grass!
hey, Jazz & Heritage Festival is happening now!

charles mingus

Charles Mingus // Triumph of the Underdog (Documentary 1997) from umutcaglar on Vimeo.

have a look at this doc about Charles Mingus! Takes around 70 minutes, so get a coffee and sit down to watch the whole through, because the end is actually the best part, when the orchestra play his last long and complex song, his great masterpiece! 2 hours of a song that was found when cataloguing his work and played for the first time ten years after he died.

coincidently, tomorrow is his day of birth, so this video came just on time!
congrats, giant mingus!! :0

flight of the conchords

My friend Carol usually post news about this band on her blog, she introduced me them and I liked the ironic lyrics and melodies. Have a look at their website (no there are no lyrics there, actually, there are almost nothing there, but the introdution is fun).
Personally, I have a huge admire for Kiwis, and that perhaps will lead me to live again in New Zealand, who knows... When I lived there, I wasn't a child, but was a loong ago and I bought a CASSETTE from this band: Fat Cat and Fish Face, which incredibly play 'horrible songs for children'!!
Today, my brother sent me a link (as usual) by Flight of The Conchords playing things!
Thank you people!

ujino's performance

So I went to his performance... I was curious to see his instrument working live.
Basically, the show was similar to DJs' performances, except for the smell; he made a smooth using the blender so the place was strongly smelling milk with banana, and of course much more interesting than an simple DJ!
His set was two turntables connected to the drill, to the hairdryer and to the blender. Some pedals, and other effects which he use by hands, and many speakers behind him! Awesome! We heard different sounds from pencils attached to those turntables, annoying hums that we commonly hear from all over the place we go, fridge, radios, tvs, microwave, buses, light...
he used nicely those sounds to composed. Worked very well, pleasant to hear and watch, and rhythmic so we are able to dance as a party, a weird party, I supposed.

I found this performance on youtube, so we can have an idea..

The Rotators

I went to Ujino Muneteru's exhibition yesterday, a Japanese artist who is presenting his sound installation at Hayward Gallery.
His works sounds and seems incredible! And very curious.. The image from the structure is so crude that we think we can easily understand, but took me long time to figure out. And I still have some doubts about it.. I found on his website some sketches of how it works.

So, basically, the ground is actually the turntable, and that give us the rhythm. The other machines, the blender, the hoover, the drill, they are separately connected to any surface like drawers or piano strings or wardrobe, and resonating a 'note' when pressed. The sound is rhythmic and weird, in a good sense!

Later on today he is going to perform, I will try to make it.

prisoner's artwork...

This picture is a detail of Colin Pitchfork's work, who is one of Britain's most notorious child sex murderers and who made hundreds of pound from its sale. Royal Festival Hall naively bought it for 1500 pounds..

A High Court judge said that Pitchfork was the first murderer he has dealt with to make truly exceptional progresses in prison but said his crimes were so horrific that he must remain in prison.
The artwork is patiently made from manuscript of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. That reminds me something...
