otomo yoshihide

all those japanese links are because I am searching about this guy Otomo Yoshihide.
we had, last year, a great lecture, which he was scratching the guitar, smashing the turntables and burning the speakers (literally)!
he is kind and violent, noisy and quiet, a paradoxo, I love it!
he didn't say much about him and his work on that lecture but was the one I could get most (we're having those lectures every week, many sound artist as Janek Schaeffer, Nic Collins, Iris Garrelfs, Max Eastley showed there)

guillermo gregorio

Mr. Lucio Vassarath has been my friend for ages.. is one of my friends I used to look at making silly things when he was young, and I used to think how he would be when he get old and the one who I still keep in touch to making sure that everything is going to be exactly how I expected.

He used to play guitar amazingly and I thought he would be a star. But suddenly, he changed the instrument to play sitar. So he left his band, and no one in my city could follow him anymore... we missed the train...
However, like a passionate musician as I knew he was, he still kept playing even by himself or eventually as a special guest in a gig. And, like a curious musician as I also knew he was, he still kept searching about music even with no one chasing him the same knowledge (with rare exceptions). Nevertheless, like a clever journalist as I never thought he would be, he showed me this crazy Argentinean jazz musician Guillermo Gregorio.

Guillermo, like Lucio, is an unsatisfied person who have been searching intensely about jazz since young; being introduced to Ornette Coleman's music in the early '60s, when his life turned around! After hearing these knowing that Coleman played 'free', he called his neighbor, and said: 'Let's play free!'
so he did. And added more..
to have an idea what else he was pursuing that time he almost went to Paris to study with Pierre Schaeffer.

well, so that's what we've got:
Guillermito Gregorio, another mad like us (me, Lucio, Lucchianita, and others).
we can't go back now...

[big link, or a homage to Argentineans: I was writing about music video and I came across with videos by Carlos Gardel. I noticed how incredible can be those writers from Europe and US whom did not mention on their books, magazines, or either on websites, the fact that Gardel was making clips even before Ballet Mecanique and much earlier then The Panoram junkeboxes... well, well...]

brasil Carnaval 2009

Besides samba, violence and football there are many images and some reasons of why and how Brasil is like that. Particularly, I don't like stereotypes, even having fun with all that, anyway. [I confess that I'm impressed (and now addicted) on how many teas and beers people have in England per day.]
So, I suggest, the best thing to understand another culture is to go there and check yourself! Better than by the pictures..

CARNAVAL will starts next week, and well, Brasil is now working to have 5 days of only parties!!!
And to whom doesn't know, after 4 days we have the last one to take a rest! =)
I remember once I was in Rio de Janeiro and I forgot to take money from the bank before carnaval and I couldn't take any money from the cash machine, cause I had to get from inside the bank (that was my case). So, I spent all those days asking money for my friends.. well, not even the bank work on that period!

I found that link about Funk Carioca interesting to read. And here is the link to Tati QuebraBarraco. Many people here ask me about that.
On this myspace you can read also others articles about carnaval, tapioca, acai, cachaca, erva-mate, et al.

michel michel

today I'd like to dedicate my special time to Michel Gondry.

ps: how could he be inspired by this song and made this music video so cleverly???

letter to Mr. Gondry

Dear Mr. Gondry,

I came to tell you that I had a very Gondry night last weekend. And it was an incredible sensation of actually being inside of The Science of SleepI finally could appreciate the felling of not having this monotonous scale we live and it was great.

Sometimes I think of why some people enjoy watching movies on widescreen if it was shot using another format, as the actors seems fat and short.. So, this night I could realized that perhaps those people experienced what I had that night and it might affected them..

Besides all this scales disproportion, I would like to say that I am also very keen with cardboard as well and I could build all my house with that.

So, thank you Mr. Gondry.

And please, take care.

lots of love,
Carina

cellphone players

please, don't turn off your cell phone!
the concert will start.

well, in my sincere opinion, this cell-oist doesn't play very well, what do you think? A witty player, but not very precise.
also, I wouldn't do that arrangement, is quite ordinary, I'm a bit tired of that music..

and here an example of a virtuoso phone-ist!

just this last one now, I promise not to bother with cell phones anymore!
guerrilla!! i love it!

turn if OFFFFFF!!!

sounds waves!

I love hi-frequency!

jean cocteau

this is Sam Robinson's work, which he did for my class.
that is the same exercise I did using my tablets' prescription (posted on 28 Jan), 'will the tablets suit you?'
he showed us this sentence by Jean Cocteau and played his song freely inspired by whatever he got on mind... following any rules, not even the simple one we had: be inspired by the text.. well, is he follow?
without anymore explanation we listened to the music, and I loved.
